Chelsea youngster Mason Mount has put pen to a new that will keep him at Chelsea until 2024.
Mount is highly rated at the club, and the Blues weren’t keen on losing him as his contract was nearing its end, with reports claiming that some other Premier League sides were keen on his signature.
Mount has revealed that Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi were his biggest inspiration to sign a new Chelsea contract.
The duo are academy products but fought their way into the first team towards the end of last season. Mount revealed that their achievement last season has gingered him to make the step up for the Blues.
“I watched Callum and Ruben come through last season, playing games and scoring goals, and it was very pleasing for me to see them doing so well,” he said.
“It’s exciting to come back and think I can do the same as them.
“They stepped up when they had the chance and now I’m going to work as hard as I can trying to repeat what they did.”
Upon signing the new deal, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia told the official Chelsea website: “Mason has come right the way through the Chelsea Academy and has always stood out as a fantastic talent and dedicated individual.
“We have monitored his development extremely closely while he has been out on loan and believe he is now ready to be a member of our squad competing at the top of the Premier League.
“Like another of our Academy graduates, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, we are delighted Mason has committed himself to the club this summer and look forward to an exciting future ahead.”
With the likes of Mount and Loftus-Cheek having tied their futures to the club, Chelsea will be hoping that Hudson-Odoi signs a new deal too.
