Former Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini was one of former head coach Maurizio Sarri’s assistants last season.
Cudicini won’t be a part of Frank Lampard’s coaching crew, but he definitely has a role to play for the club next season.
Despite a recent report that Carlo Cudicini has joined the coaching setup for the Chelsea Development Squad (U23), it would appear that his new role is actually in the loan player department.
Cudicini was part of the coaching setup of both former Italian bosses Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri. He will now fill the void left by Eddie Newton who has joined Lampard’s coaching crew.
Cudicini will work with Paulo Ferreira and Christophe Lollichon, both of whom have been in those roles (“loan player technical coach”) for some time now.
Cudicini was one of the big campaigners for Lampard to get the Chelsea job, and urged that Lampard be given time on the job.
“I know Frank, I played with Frank. I think that, for the club, it would be fantastic,” Cudicini said, as quoted on Chelsea’s official website.
“He has just started his career, but in football you can’t really plan much. Sometimes, a chance comes along and if you have the chance, you have to take it.
“Obviously, for the club, he was such an important player and potentially as a coach he can be too. I think he has all the ability to become a great coach, but he has just started.
“Everyone needs time, not just him, everyone needs time to put his philosophy in the team. In football, time is a crucial thing.”
