Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin have confirmed the signing of young Chelsea striker Daishawn Redan.
The 18 year old leaves Chelsea after two years, 33 goals in 66 academy matches, winning an academy quadruple in 2017-18 as well as the U17 Euros with the Netherlands the same season.
He joined the Chelsea academy from Ajax in 2017 and was considered one of the most promising attackers in Chelsea’s academy.
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea will receive a fee believed to be in excess of £5m for the Dutch teenager.
According to German based journalist Marcel Braune, Chelsea will not have a buy-back option on Redan’s transfer to Hertha Berlin even though he is highly rated by our Academy coaches.
It is believed Redan opted to leave Chelsea on a permanent basis for Hertha Berlin because the German side will offer him the chance to accelerate his development with regular first-team football in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Despite Frank Lampard’s promise to give youngsters a chance in the first team, Redan believes he will develop faster by getting regular first team football at Hertha Berlin and we really can’t blame the youngster for making this decision.
We wish Daishawn Redan all the best in this new chapter of his career.
