The Blues left London for Japan on Monday afternoon for our pre-season tour of the Asian country.
The players were given Sunday and Monday morning off after the completion of our Irish tour that saw us play against Bohemians and St Patrick’s.
While in Japan, the Blues will play against J.League champions Kawasaki Frontale on Friday and Barcelona in Saitama on Tuesday 23 July.
N’Golo Kante, who didn’t train with the team in Ireland due to an injury he suffered before the Europa League final against Arsenal, is expected to return to team training having been working with the physios.
Christian Pulisic and Willian, who both missed the Irish tour due to being involved with their various national teams, will join the team in Japan for pre-season training.
The players looked in high spirits ahead of their trip to Japan on Monday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed Pulisic will cut short his holiday to join the team in Japan, just nine days after the USA lost to Mexico in the Gold Cup final.
“Christian joins us on Tuesday,” Lampard told reporters. “He’s had a short break, but he wanted to get back with us quickly, which I certainly appreciate.”
“I appreciate that [coming straight off the Gold Cup],” Lampard added. “It’s how I would have been.
“It’s a big move for him to a huge club. He’s a top young player. He’s only going to go one way in terms of his career – he’s going to go up and be a big signing for Chelsea. I hope so. I look forward to working with him.
“It’s important we start the season as well as we can. I know we have injuries – people back at Cobham now that are influential players for us at similar positions, so we’ll need him.”
