According to The Sun, Crystal Palace have made 18 year old Chelsea right-back Reece James their first choice to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who left for Manchester United this summer.
Wan-Bissaka joined Manchester United last month after a protracted transfer negotiation which saw the two clubs come to an agreement over a £45million initial fee, with an extra £5m lined up in add-ons.
James is back at Chelsea after an impressive loan spell at Wigan last season but it isn’t known if Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will keep him at the club next season.
James won both the Latics’ players’ player of the year and and player of the year awards and his impressive performances while on loan at Wigan have now caught the attention of Premier League clubs.
The report claims Crystal Palace want James, either on loan or on a permanent deal and are reportedly happy to wait for Chelsea to make a decision on the youngster.
Brighton are also reportedly ready to challenge Crystal Palace for the signature of the 19 year old fullback if he becomes available.
James is currently recovering from ankle ligament damage, sustained against Chile Under-23s in the Toulon tournament last month.
