Eden Hazard was the star of the Chelsea team last season and has been Chelsea’s best player over the years in the seven years he spent at Stamford Bridge.
While Chelsea fans might be regretting the sale of Hazard to Real Madrid, January signing Christian Pulisic has shown that he’s a younger version of the departed star, and that he’ll bring his quality to the club next season.
Pulisic captained the USA to a 1-0 Curacao, setting up the winning goal for Weston McKennie. The 20-year-old has been in incredible form for the United States in the Gold Cup.
While Lampard was appointed as the new Chelsea manager on Thursday afternoon, Pulisic gave Lampard a glimpse of what’s to come in the early hours of the morning as he inspired the USA to a 3-1 victory over Jamaica to secure a place in the Gold Cup final.
The 20-year-old forward scored a second-half brace following Weston McKennie’s opener to help USA book a place in the final of the Gold Cup, as they seek to retain the trophy they won two years ago.
Pulisic was just too good against the Jamaicans who couldn’t cope with his pace, skill and attacking prowess.
USA head coach Gregg Berhalter was full of praise for Pulisic’s work ethic ahead of the side’s win over Jamaica.
“Christian is a guy who is a top performer and he’s a guy that can lead through performance,” Berhalter said.
“I talked to him about being captain [for the previous match against Curacao] and it’s something he readily accepted and you see his work-rate.
“He’s a guy that — despite getting fatigued in the game — he didn’t stop working, and then he has the quality to give a great pass to Weston.”
Lampard might not have Eden Hazard on his ranks, but he definitely has a buzzing Pulisic and a rising giant in Callum Hudson-Odoi. Indeed the future is Blue.
