Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has reportedly signed a three year deal to become Chelsea boss and the club is expected to make the announcement in the next 24 hours.
According to Daily Mail, there are a number of incentives linked to Lampard’s contract, including a bonus for sealing Champions League qualification.
Lampard’s Chelsea contract is reportedly worth around £4million yearly and he will get an extra £1million if he achieves Champions League qualification with the club.
Lampard will bring Jody Morris, the former Chelsea midfielder and coach, and Chris Jones with him but there is uncertainty over whether Shay Given will join Lampard’s coaching team as the former Republic of Ireland international may stay on as Derby’s goalkeeping coach.
Derby owner Mel Morris, speaking on talkSPORT, admitted it was a matter of time before Lampard joined Chelsea.
Asked if Lampard’s move to Stamford Bridge is merely matter of time, Morris said: “I’m assuming so.
“Obviously it’s a matter between Chelsea and Frank at this stage, but they’ve now got the opportunity to finalise matters.
“As we’ve said before, when Frank and I first met we discussed this very eventuality, the only difference is the timing of this.
“My belief at this point in time is that Frank and Chelsea need to have the time to finalise the transaction between them.
“You could say they’ve had plenty of time, but in fairness Frank was away on vacation – and a well-deserved one after a pretty tough season – and he didn’t come back until Friday, so I think that has been a big factor.”
