A lot has happened to Chelsea this year. In 2019 alone, the Blues have had two managers, with Frank Lampard currently the new Chelsea boss.
Chelsea have been hit with a transfer ban this year, and the Blues have seen star man Eden Hazard depart for Real Madrid.
The loss of Eden Hazard is a huge pill to take, but Chelsea also procured the signing of a rare gem Christian Pulisic in January before loaning him back to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the campaign.
The signing of Pulisic before the transfer ban might just be the best thing Chelsea have done this year.
Winger Pulisic is the third most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history, following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Alvaro Morata, and the Blues beat competition from Manchester City to sign him up for £57.6m.
Not signing the American at the time Chelsea did wouldn’t have augured well for the club due to the transfer ban that was slapped on Chelsea not long after.
The signing of Pulisic was a smart and timely move, and the 20-year-old was one of the stars of the just concluded Gold Cup.
Pulisic was named the Best Young Player of the Gold Cup 2019 despite USA’s 1-0 to Mexico in the finals.
Pulisic was the star of the American team as he bagged three goals and three assists to help USA reach the final.
He will now take some weeks of before joining his Chelsea teammates for preseason as the Blues kick off pre-season with a game against Bohemians on Wednesday.
