Chelsea fans must have been shocked to see Chelsea wear an old away kit for the pre-season clash against Reading on Sunday.

For the game at the Madejski Stadium, Reading used their traditional look of blue and white hoops and Chelsea were forced to go with last year’s yellow away kit.

Chelsea’s black third kit is still not released, which is the reason why Frank Lampard’s side had to go for the yellow kit, so as to avoid confusion on the pitch.

Chelsea followed the 2-1 win over Barcelona with a victory against Reading, as the Blues defeated Reading 4-3.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard claimed afterwards that the win over Reading was another positive step in our preparations for the 2019/20 season, which begins in a fortnight.

“The players have done everything that we as staff have asked of them,” Lampard said.

“We’ve had two good trips – one to Dublin which was purely work and the boys worked brilliantly, and then Japan to see the fans over there and play two very tough games so that was also great for us.

“The clock is ticking and we only have two weeks left to be ready for Manchester United but I’m pleased.”

Chelsea have played five pre-season games under Lampard, and the Blues have won 3, drawn 1 and lost 1.

Chelsea’s next pre-season game is against Red Bull on Wednesday.
