Ross Barkley hasn’t really been at his best since signing up for Chelsea in January 2018. A long-term injury hampered his development as a player and he looked far from his best when featuring under Antonio Conte last year.

Last season, he had his first full campaign with Chelsea, and it was his first since recovering from injury. He improved last season, but found himself behind Mateo Kovacic in the pecking order. Many even believed that we were yet to see the best of Barkley.

However, the Englishman has been showing what he’s capable of doing in pre-season, and has been a bright spot in the Chelsea midfield.

Barkley has been very impressive for Chelsea in pre-season, and was at his best at the Madejski Stadium as Chelsea defeated Reading 4-3.

After Josh Barrett had scored an early goal for Reading, it was Ross Barkley who scored the equaliser through a delightful free-kick. The free-kick was stunning, and there was nothing Joao Virginia could have done about it.

Chelsea fans were very impressed with Barkley and hailed his performance after the game.

One Chelsea fan said: “Ross Barkley can be the goalscoring midfielder we’ve been missing for a long long time”

Another Blue fan hailed his free-kick: “Coach Lamps is really bringing out the best in these boys , it’s been a while we had freekick specialists.”

Another Chelsea fan wants Barkley to continue to perfect his free-kick as he said: “Barkley must continue to train to master his free kicks because pulisic will get us more free kicks in dangerous zones.”

Another Blues fan said: “Barkley should sacrifice everything to be our free kick maestro, last season we wasted a lot.”
