In a game where both teams were awful in defence, Chelsea beat Reading 4-3 in our fifth preseason game.
Reading started the game brightly and took the lead after 13 minutes through Josh Barrett. However, Ross Barkley equalised with a stunning free-kick just after nine minutes.
Kenedy put Chelsea in the lead three minutes before halftime from a long range effort. Reading started the second half brightly and scored four minutes into the second through Michael Morrison, who was left unmarked in the far post from a Reading corner.
Mason Mount restored Chelsea’s two-goal lead after 57 minutes and made it 4-2 three minutes.
Mateo Kovacic’s error around Chelsea’s box was punished as Reading made it 4-3 through Sam Baldock after 71 minutes.
Chelsea followed the victory against Barcelona with a thrilling win against Reading, and the Chelsea players were delighted.
Mason Mount said after the game: “Another tough pre-season game, we keep working hard and improving.”
It was Pedro’s birthday and he was delighted as he posted: “There’s no better way to celebrate my birthday than with a win. Thank you all for your bday wishes! Come on @ChelseaFC.”
Azpilicueta wrote on social media: “We keep working.”
Young goalkeeper James Cummings was pleased to have been involved as he wrote: “More minutes in a @ChelseaFC shirt 💙 not long to go now 🙌🏼 #CFC.”
