Ian McGarry, Lampard’s ghostwriter for his 2006 autobiography Totally Frank, has revealed what he believes will be Frank Lampard’s formation and team selections for the early part of the season.
According to McGarry, Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Danny Drinkwater are all set to be given a chance by Frank Lampard at Chelsea.
Speaking on The Transfer Window podcast, McGarry said according to The Sun: “My information is that as a result of some of [the injuries to younger players], Danny Drinkwater of all people, a man who’s been in the wilderness under Maurizio Sarri and made one appearance in total last season, has been told that he’s got an opportunity to prove himself and give himself the possibility of partnering N’Golo Kante in midfield next season in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
“At the same time, Tammy Abraham I understand will be made the lead striker ahead of the experienced Olivier Giroud.
“And also, Mason Mount, who’s also had a new contract, will play as a number 10.”
Below is how Lampard intends to set up his team for the early part of the new season, according to McGarry:
