Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek signed a new Chelsea contract reportedly worth around £150,000 a week on Saturday and the 23 year old deserves his new contract after his impressive performances last season.
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia believes Loftus-Cheek can become a superstar under Frank Lampard and she isn’t far from the truth.
The 23 year old midfielder scored 10 goals from 40 appearances for Chelsea last season including a hat-trick in a Europa League group-stage game and an important late winner in the Premier League at Cardiff.
According to stats provided by Opta, Loftus-Cheek became the first Englishman to score 10+ goals for Chelsea since Lampard in 2012/13.
After the announcement of his new Chelsea contract, fans urged the club to hand the No.8 shirt, currently worn by Ross Barkley, to Loftus-Cheek. Lampard wore the No.8 shirt during his days as a Chelsea player and fans see Loftus-Cheek as the authentic heir to Lampard’s shirt number.
