According to Daily Express, Chelsea may have harmed Tottenham’s chances of signing Roma sensation Nicolo Zaniolo by deciding not to sign Gonzalo Higuain on a permanent deal.
Higuain joined Chelsea on loan in January with an option to make the move permanent but the Blues opted against signing the Argentine on a permanent deal after he failed to live up to expectations at Stamford Bridge.
Roma are reportedly interested in signing Higuain as he is surplus to requirements at Juventus and Daily Express claim Roma may use Tottenham target Zaniolo, 20, as a makeweight in the deal for Higuain.
Zaniolo only joined Roma last summer as part of the deal that took Radja Nainggolan from Rome to Inter Milan and Juventus are reportedly admirers of the 20 year old midfielder.
Tottenham have been tracking Zaniolo after he scored two Champions League goals against Porto last season, making him the youngest Italian player to net a brace in Europe’s top competition.
Tottenham are keen on signing the 20 year old but face disappointment in the transfer, with Zaniolo potentially on his way to Juventus after Chelsea opted against signing Higuain.
