Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante is regarded as the best defensive midfielder in the world. Interestingly, former Chelsea Manager Maurizio Sarri decided to change his role as he brought Sarri-ball to Stamford Bridge.
Sarri opted to use Jorginho as a holding midfielder and pushed Kante further forward in midfield, as the France international played on the right side of midfield.
For much of last season there were arguments of how Sarri was using Kante, but Kante improved over the course of the season, and some aspects of his game got better. His runs, ball control, intelligence, awareness, and other technical abilities improved, although he was sorely missed at the base of the team’s midfield.
New Chelsea boss Frank Lampard plays a 4-3-3 formation, and one can wonder whether Kante will sit deep in midfield or he’ll be deployed as same role under Sarri. Lampard says he already knows where he will play the hard-working midfielder.
Lampard was asked if he knew where he was going to play Kante next season.
“Yeah I do, thankfully,” Lampard said in response.
“I’m not going to sit here and say how were going to look next season because we’re starting pre-season tomorrow and the players are coming back.
“I think and I’ve said before Kante is one of the greatest midfielders in the world.
“In the last few years his performances have been outstanding.
“One of the pleasures of me getting this job is that I’m able to work with players of that quality.
“My job would be to find the best position to get the best out of him in the team.
“I’m fortunate to have a player like him, we’ll work, but I know the qualities and attributes he has and will try to get the most out of him.”
Lampard could get to deploy Kante as a box to box midfielder, just as Ramires was used while with the club, or he could still continue in the advanced midfield role or better still as a core defensive midfielder.
No matter the decision Lampard makes one thing is for sure – Kante has improved his overall game, and it will come as a plus for the team.
