Championship side Wigan are in talks with Chelsea over a loan deal for young right-back Dujon Sterling, according to Sky Sports.
Reece James impressed on loan at Wigan last season, winning the club’s Player of the Year award and with James set to stay at Stamford Bridge this summer, Wigan now want Sterling.
19 year old Sterling spent last season on loan at Coventry and was on the verge of joining QPR on loan last week before the move broke down.
Sterling made 40 appearances for Coventry last season and will be hoping to impress again on loan at Wigan this season.
Sterling made his first-team debut under Antonio Conte in September 2017, when he replaced Zappacosta in the latter stages of Chelsea’s League Cup third-round win against Nottingham Forest.
The 19 year old signed a long-term deal keeping him at Chelsea until the summer of 2022 shortly after making that maiden first-team appearance.
Meanwhile, Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has provided an insight into how Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wants his full-backs to play.
Alonso said: “The first few sessions have been going very well. I feel very good playing the way the manager wants with high intensity, trying to keep the ball, moving the ball side to side and giving freedom for the full-backs to attack.
“Of course, knowing that our main target is to defend but I’m very happy with how we’re working and looking forward to the start of the season.”
