Eden Hazard left Chelsea for Real Madrid at the end of last season, as Real Madrid paid £88m for the Belgian, in a deal that could rise up to £150m.
The biggest debate surrounding Chelsea is whether the Blues can survive without Hazard next season, especially now that the club has been hit with a transfer ban.
Hazard spent seven years at Chelsea, and the 28-year-old was the star of the team for so long, and decided a lot of games for Chelsea. Hazard was a torment to defenders in the Premier League, and now Chelsea will have to do without him.
Chelsea star Willian has joked that he has had the same level of impact as Hazard in the Chelsea team.
Speaking in an interview with Esporte Espetacular, the 30-year-old was asked about the Belgian and his departure to Real Madrid this summer.
“He can be (a star),” Willian said. “Now he’s at one of the best clubs in the world.
“He’s a proper player,” Hazard continued. “He can play football.”
“In those six years we played together, I decided half of the games, he the other half,” said Willian with a laugh as he cracked a joke.
“No, but he decided several games for us,” added the Brazilian. “No doubt, he’s a great player.”
However, Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley has urged that the Chelsea players put in their best next season, and he believes Chelsea have enough quality to replace Hazard.
Barkley told Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella:
“You have to fill in. Everyone in the squad understands that he [Hazard] was a great player, but he is gone. He has new challenges now and we have to replace his goals and create the chances. We have that much quality in the squad we will all step up to the plate.
“Last season when Eden wasn’t playing we still won games, we still created chances. We know he is an exceptional player, but we have exceptional players in the squad. We have young ones that will step up and produce the goods as well.”
