Brazil beat Peru 3-1 in the famous Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro to win the Copa America, maintaining a record of having lifted the trophy on all four occasions they were host nation, the most recent previously being in 1989.

Despite a thigh injury which was reported as likely to keep him out of the Copa America final, Chelsea winger Willian made the bench for the game against Peru.

Willian picked up the injury in Brazil’s semifinal win over their biggest rivals Argentina.

Willian was a late addition to the Brazil squad as replacement for Neymar, who suffered an injury before the start of the competition.

Willian featured in every game for Brazil except the goalless draw against Venezuela and the final against Peru. He scored in Brazil’s 5-0 win over Peru and then converted a shootout penalty in their quarterfinal win over Paraguay.

Willian will take a deserved break before meeting up with his new boss Frank Lampard.
