Kurt Zouma had a good time on loan with Everton last season, and the 24-year-old has improved massively.
Zouma has spent the last two seasons away on loan, having lost his place in the Chelsea first team due to a long-term injury he suffered against Manchester United in 2016.
Zouma impressed on loan last season and has now impressed Frank Lampard in pre-season, and the Chelsea boss is determined to keep him.
“In terms of Kurt Zouma, he’s a very good defender for us, very good player, very good person and professional,” Lampard said.
“I want him here, simple as that. We are competitive with the centre-backs we have in the team and he had a very good season at Everton.
“I can understand why they want him. He’s a Chelsea player and I want him.”
Zouma has now reacted to Lampard’s statement about him and has admitted that he’s happy with what the manager said and is working hard to impress the boss.
“There is a lot of talk but I’m a Chelsea player and the most important thing is to work, play well in pre-season and take my chances,” he said.
“I’m happy with what he said about me because it means he’s pleased with the work I’m doing.”
