Chelsea fans have thrown the weight of their support behind club legend and new Blues boss Frank Lampard since he was appointed as Chelsea manager last month.

Chelsea are yet to get a win under Lampard, but Tammy Abraham is impressed with what he has seen under the new boss and believes that the fans will support the manager and the team this season.

“It still hasn’t really kicked in yet but when you’re given a chance like this you just have to give your all for the team,” he reflected on his own opportunity this season.

“I feel like we’re really getting somewhere and things are looking positive. The fans will be behind us. We’ve put in two good performances and I think they can see that so hopefully we can give them a performance.”

Chelsea fans at Old Trafford applauded the team despite the heavy defeat to Manchester United away from home on Sunday, and according to Lampard, the fans applauded the players because they saw the team trying to do the right thing against Manchester United.

Lampard said: “What the fans want to see, and why they were clapping and very respectful at the end, was because they saw a team trying to do the right thing.

“The game went against us very quickly when the second and third goals went in, and that was the harsh lesson for my young team today.”
