Chelsea youngster Conor Gallagher is the latest Chelsea academy player to have signed a new contract with the Blues. Callagher signed a new three-year contract and then moved to Charlton Athletic on loan for the 2019/20 season.

Gallagher is a highly-rated midfielder and has prospect for the future. The 19-year-old impressed for our development squad last season and picked up the Chelsea Academy Player of the Year award.

Gallagher has been at Chelsea since age 8 and has had a successful youth career, winning every trophy on offer at the Under-18 age group, as well as the Under-17 World Cup with England in 2017.

The 19-year-old is pushing his way up the first team and featured in Frank Lampard’s first pre-season game in charge against Bohemians in Dublin, and he impressed in central midfield. Gallagher was an unused substitute in the Europa League final, and will now link up with Lee Bowyer’s newly promoted Charlton Athletic in the Championship for his first experience of senior football on loan.

Having been part of Chelsea’s tour of Ireland, Gallagher admitted he was pleased to player under Frank Lampard and to be pleased to be part of the team.

“It’s great working under the gaffer and I have to say that Frank was my idol growing up, so it’s fantastic to have him here as manager,” said the 19 year-old.

“I’m buzzing with how things are going and I can’t believe it really. Winning Academy Player of the Year was fantastic and then to travel with the squad to Baku was great.

“Being part of the squad out here is great and I’m really enjoying myself. I just want to keep working hard now.”
