Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is willing to let midfielder Danny Drinkwater leave the club this summer after the 29 year old failed to make the squad for Chelsea’s last two preseason games.
There had been no interest in Drinkwater after the midfielder made just one appearance for Chelsea last season, in the Community Shield loss to Manchester City last season, until Burnley’s recent interest in signing him on loan.
According to The Sun, another Premier League club have joined the race to sign Drinkwater.
Newly promoted Norwich have entered the race to sign Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater, according to The Sun.
Norwich have made five signings already this summer but they want a midfielder with Premier League experience and Drinkwater fits the bill.
Norwich, who are trying to complete a £7m deal for striker Jordan Rhodes from Sheffield Wednesday, have already signed West Ham full-back Sam Byram, Daniel Adshead from Rochdale for £300,000, Josip Drmic on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach and keeper Ralf Fahrmann from Schalke.
Norwich, who won the Championship last season, believe they lack an English player who can take a game by the scruff of the neck.
However, The Sun claim Burnley are leading the race to sign Drinkwater because they have plenty more money, having completed two seasons in the Premier League and the huge sums that that brings with it.
