Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger is set to make a return to the pitch since April tonight for Chelsea Under-23s.
Rudiger missed the final weeks of last season after hurting his knee in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in April.
The German was a key player for Chelsea last season under Maurizio Sarri but has been unable to feature under Frank Lampard this season.
Rudiger will reportedly be in line for a run-out tonight when Chelsea’s Under-23s take on their Liverpool counterparts at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, who has failed to play any of Chelsea’s three games this season under Frank Lampard, is also expected to play in an effort to force his way into a team ahead of Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham with Lampard still searching for his first competitive win as Chelsea boss.
Should Rudiger come through tonight’s Under-23 clash unscathed, he could be available for Chelsea’s next game away at Norwich.
Batshuayi will be hoping to impress Lampard by putting a strong performance in the match against Liverpool U23.
Giroud and Abraham appear to be Lampard’s first two strikers but Batshuayi is hoping to push himself into contention.
