Chelsea fans never took kindly the appointment of Rafael Benitez as he became Chelsea manager in 2012.

The former Liverpool boss had a brief spell at Stamford Bridge as he took charge of the Blues in November 2012 after the club parted ways with Champions League-winning manager Roberto di Matteo.

Benitez won the Europa League with Chelsea in 2013, but the Chelsea fans never gave him a chance as he was unpopular among the fans due to his rivalry with the club fans while as Liverpool boss.

Chelsea fans booed Benitez all through his time at Stamford Bridge, but the former Chelsea interim manager has revealed that he was successful at the club.

“It was a very easy decision because it was a top club with top players,” the Spaniard explained his motives behind accepting the Chelsea offer.

“What I have to say is that the board, the players and the staff were always very supportive. I think the majority of the fans appreciated what we did at this time. I was really happy to perform and do what we did.

“I hope that history will look back and see we did a good, professional job and that we were successful. I still have a great relationship with a lot of people there.”
