Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill completed a move to Crystal Palace on Monday, having left Chelsea at the end of his contract in June.
Cahill has revealed Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek played a part in his decision to join Crystal Palace on loan.
Loftus-Cheek made 25 appearances for Palace across an impressive year on loan two seasons ago.
“He did [play a part in me signing], he loved it here and I thought it benefited both parties,” Cahill said, according to Standard Sport.
“Ruben is a special player, he is going to have a massive future and I thought he was fantastic in the games he played for Palace. Likewise, Palace gave him the opportunity to go and play football in the Premier League so I think it worked.
“He spoke very highly of the place, not just playing for the team and for the fans but also behind the scenes at the training ground and all the people that surround the club.”
Cahill also added playing for Crystal Palace is a good opportunity for him to continue his career in the Premier League.
“I’m glad to be here, I think it’s a good opportunity for me to continue my career in the Premier League, and to play in a good, exciting team,” Cahill said.
“There are some very exciting, talented players here. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
