Cesar Azpilicueta was part of the Chelsea team that lost 4-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The right-back was at fault for two of the goals against Manchester United and ahead of the UEFA Super Cup clash against Liverpool on Wednesday, Azpilicueta insists Chelsea must work hard and learn from the mistakes made against Manchester United.
“The only way is to regroup as a team, work hard and learn from the mistakes,” Azpilicueta said.
“We know we are facing a strong side, but hopefully we can be at our best and get the result we want tomorrow.
“This is a trophy, a European trophy, an important trophy. There are not many chances to be here. We have been here with Chelsea the third time in the last eight years. We lost two finals in 2012 and 2013, so hopefully this year we can change that by winning it.
“It’s always good to be involved in this kind of final at the start of the season. It’s a great way to start and hopefully we can win it tomorrow.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard also revealed he’s optimistic ahead of the game against Liverpool.
Lampard said: “I’m optimistic because I believe in the players. We’re here in the final because we deserve to be due to the achievements of the players and the club last season. We understand the quality of an opponent like Liverpool because they deservingly won the Champions League this year.
“They have a good manager and players so it will be a test but I know if we play at our best then we can win the match.”
