Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta is close to sealing a loan exit from Chelsea to join Roma until the end of the season.
According to Sky Italia, Zappacosta will undergo a medical later this week ahead of completing a move to the Stadio Olimpico.
Zappacosta is yet to feature for Chelsea under new boss Frank Lampard, and the 27-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements due to the emergence of buzzing youngster Reece James.
Zappacosta joined Chelsea from Torino in 2017 under Antonio Conte and went on to feature 35 times during his debut season in England. He was a key player in our Europa League squad as the Blues were crowned Europa champions under Maurizio Sarri.
Zappacosta made only four Premier League appearances last season under Maurizio Sarri, and will be behind Cesar Azpilicueta and Reece James this season.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard recently hinted Zappacosta could leave the club this season when he said: “I have been really impressed with Zappacosta’s training, attitude and how he has been. He is a very good player.
“We have to make sure that we are happy with our squad when the European windows shut completely. That will be a decision for us and, of course Zappa.
“I want players happy. The professionalism that he has shown here has been great. That’s an ongoing conversation, but he is our player.”
