Chelsea defender Davide Zappacosta has sealed a loan move away from Stamford Bridge for the rest of the season. The Italian international signed a one-year contract extension to his current deal at the club and moved to Roma on loan until the end of January.
His 12-month extension will take his contract at Chelsea through to June 2022.
Zappacosta didn’t feature for Frank Lampard in the three games so far this season, but made 52 appearances for Chelsea, half of which came in the Premier League.
In his two years at the club, the 27-year-old full-back has won the FA Cup and Europa League with the Blues. Zappacosta was an unused substitute at Wembley in the FA Cup final in May 2018, and was a key part of our Europa League success last season featuring in 10 games, and appearing as a late substitute in the big win over Arsenal in Baku that sealed our triumph.
Zappacosta has represented the Italian national team 13 times for whom he has appeared alongside club team-mates Jorginho and Emerson Palmieri. Six of those appearances have come since he joined the Blues.
