Chelsea showed good form yet again to beat Austrian side RB Salzburg in a pre-season friendly. A brace from Christian Pulisic, and one apiece from Ross Barkley, Pedro and Michy Batshuayi were enough for Chelsea to get a third consecutive pre-season victory.

It was a very good team performance, although Chelsea’s defence was a mess in the second-half, allowing Salzburg to score two late goals.

Chelsea raced into a 3-0 lead in Austria, with Christian Pulisic netting twice and Ross Barkley also on target from the penalty spot. The Blues scored the three goals within eight minutes as Chelsea ended the first half 3-0.

Pulisic latched on to a through ball from midfield and showed composure to score the opening goal 20 minutes into the match.

Shortly after his goal, Pulisic won a penalty for Chelsea which was duly converted by Ross Barkley. It didn’t take long as Pulisic and Barkley combined again for the third goal. Barkley played a lovely ball over the top for Pulisic, who ran onto the ball and did a good finish to make it 3-0 just before the half hour mark.

Chelsea continued to threaten, but no further goals came as the first half ended 3-0. Salzburg did respond shortly after the break from a corner, but Pedro soon made it 4-1 with an audacious goal. Pedro received a wonderful pass from Barkley and his finish was even more wonderful as his volleyed backflick from Barkley’s cross was pure genius and is definitely the best goal of the 2019 pre-season. Pedro’s goal came just before the hour mark, but there were three further goals late in the game.

Salzburg sub Takumi Minamino scored from the spot to give the Austrian side a little bit of hope in the 85th minute, but Chelsea sub Michy Batshuayi showed great determination to score a goal three minutes later. Minamino capitalised on a poor Chelsea defending to score a late goal with the last kick of the game as Chelsea won 5-3.

Ross Barkley and Pulisic have both been hailed for their performance in the game, and Chelsea fans were quick to applaud the duo.
