Chelsea have drawn Ajax, Valencia and Lille in our Champions League group and considering the Blues could have drawn the likes of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid or Borussia Dortmund, many believe Chelsea have been handed an easy group.
According to Chelsea legend Petr Cech, Chelsea’s group isn’t an easy group because everybody can beat everybody.
Cech said: “I think it is a very even group.
“All the teams have a lot of quality and it is one of those groups where everybody can beat everybody so this makes it very interesting but we can be satisfied with the draw. We avoided long travel so that was one of the positives.
“They are new teams for the Chelsea fans and for the club so it is going to be interesting encounters but Ajax had a fantastic season last season so they will want to repeat that, but we are looking forward to the challenge and I hope we are going to go through.
“We will like to do the best that is possible, so obviously compete in every game, try to win and go through the group stage and once you reach the knockout stages, anything can happen. So we will see how we go but the first target is to try to go through the group stage and qualify for the next round.”
Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen expects Chelsea to qualify to the knockout stage of the Champions League.
Owen said: “Chelsea are good at qualifying out of the group stage. Frank Lampard will be delighted to have the Champions League in his first big, big job.
“They’ve got some really good players. Of course, Hazard leaving is going to hurt them, especially at the latter stages at this level.
“But Tottenham showed last season you don’t have to be the absolute favourites, Ajax showed last season you don’t have to be the favourites to actually have a great competition.”
