Former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has named young Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as a star to watch this season.
In his list of 10 players to watch out for this season, Redknapp named Mount as the number one player to watch out for this season.
Redknapp told Daily Mail: “Spending another season learning from Frank Lampard — one of the greatest midfielders to grace the game — will be huge for Mount.
“He thrived on loan at Derby in the Championship and has continued to show his potential in pre-season. Chelsea cannot make any signings because of their ban but Mount stood out in their friendlies, used at No 10 or wide in a midfield diamond.
“He has that yard of pace and likes to score. Everything is in place for him to go far and when he does get the nod he can have that impact.”
Mount impressed for the Blues during preseason, scoring three times.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has also been impressed with Mount and he admitted the 20 year old has given him a selection headache.
Speaking after the club’s 2-2 draw with Monchengladbach, Lampard said: “He’s done a lot. I’m really happy with how he’s training, how he’s playing and his status in the group coming back here.
“The players recognise quality instantly but they also recognise work rate and character — and Mason has all of those. He has given me a problem.
“Ross Barkley also had a good pre-season and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be back later on. It’s good, as they’re all adaptable. It doesn’t have to be just one. They can play in a variety of positions.
“I couldn’t ask for more from what Mason has done.”
