Former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele is set to return to Chelsea this week, according to Daily Mail.
Makelele, who played together with Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, is being lined up for the role of Young Player Technical Mentor.
Makelele will be expected to help the youngsters at the club and speed up their progression in order to be in contention for first team action.
Makelele will also co-ordinate outgoing loan deals and help match players to select clubs which would be mutually beneficial.
Makelele left his role as manager of Belgian side KAS Eupen in June, but has retained an ambassadorial role with the club.
Makelele will become the latest in a series of players to return to Chelsea this summer with Frank Lampard returning as Chelsea boss, Jody Morris sealing a return as Lampard’s assistant and former Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech also returning as Technical Director. Former fans’ favourite Joe Cole is in a coaching role with the academy side.
Makelele said upon his return: “I am very happy to come back home. This club gave me a lot and now I want to give back and help the young Chelsea players dreaming of a career in football.
“I want to use all my experience to help them become professionals in every aspect and I am looking forward to getting started.”
Club director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are very pleased to welcome Claude back to Chelsea, where he made such an impact during five excellent years as a player.
“His long and successful career on the field, added to his winning mentality and experience as a coach in recent years, make him the ideal person to pass on his expertise to our talented youngsters. He will be a valuable asset to both our Academy and first-team coaching staff.”
