Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill is a free agent after leaving Stamford Bridge following the expiration of his contract at the end of June.

Cahill has been linked with several clubs since his departure from Stamford Bridge including Aston Villa, West Ham United, Arsenal, Burnley, Crystal Palace and Galatasaray.

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace are favourites to sign Cahill.

The report claims the 33 year old defender wants to remain in London for family reasons and have chosen to join London-based club Crystal Palace.

Cahill is reportedly close to signing a lucrative two-year deal with Crystal Palace worth £75,000 weekly.

Burnley ended their interest in signing Cahill with £40million-rated James Tarkowski set to remain at Burnley for this season at least. Burnley had wanted to replace Tarkowski with Cahill.

Crystal Palace have been quiet in the market so far but Cahill’s capture would be a coup as they try to strengthen their squad without spending fortunes.

Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko is also close to leaving the club on loan for Turkish club Galatasaray, according to Standard Sport.

The Frenchman has failed to impress new Chelsea boss Frank Lampard during preseason and was left out of Chelsea’s last two preseason games.
