Chelsea defender David Luiz is set to seal an £8m move to Arsenal on the transfer deadline day.
The news came as a shock after reports emerged on Wednesday that Chelsea defender David Luiz refused to train with the Blues in order to push through a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
It is believed that Luiz has already completed his medicals and Arsenal boss Unai Emery sees him as a replacement for Laurent Koscielny, who left the club for Bordeaux.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool right-back Glen Johnson has hailed Luiz attributes on the ball, but he believes that the Chelsea star needs to be babysat in defence.
“David Luiz is a winner, you have to agree. He’s won all sorts of trophies throughout his career,” he told talkSPORT.
“But I think Arsenal need a backbone and I’m not so sure Luiz can bring that.
“He likes to play football, he enjoys the game and he plays it the right way but Arsenal need something solid and I don’t think he’s the man for that.
“He’s great to watch, but playing alongside him he’d be one of those guys you have to be a yard closer to, just waiting for the unexpected to happen.
“Yes, he’s great when it all comes off and he’s playing with flair, but if I was playing with him you would have to babysit him a little bit.
“If you are his centre-half partner you’d have to babysit him more than you would do with somebody else.”
