Tammy Abraham is part of the Chelsea squad for the season after impressing on loan with Aston Villa last season. The striker started the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford and came in for Olivier Giroud against Liverpool in the Super Cup.

Former Liverpool star Steve Nicol isn’t convinced Abraham is a Premier League striker and wants Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to play Olivier Giroud instead.

“Tammy Abraham is not a centre-forward for the Premier League, and you have to play Giroud,” Nicol told ESPN FC.

Meanwhile, Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta insists Abraham is with the Chelsea squad on merit.

“We trust in them [Tammy  Abraham and Mason Mount] and they’re here because they deserve to be here,” Azpilicueta said after the game against Manchester United.

“They’re fighting in every training session and now we have a massive opportunity to create a fantastic group.

“Everyone would like to start the season in a better way but we have to learn from every game and come back stronger.”
