Chelsea fought back after going 2-0 down in the first half to draw 2-2 against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday in our final preseason game with Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley scoring from the penalty spot.
Chelsea youngster Mason Mount impressed once again and it was quick feet and agile change of direction which fooled Keanan Bennetts to win Chelsea’s second penalty which Barkley converted.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard revealed after the draw against Borussia Monchengladbach that he was impressed with the performance of the 20 year old and admitted Mason has given him a problem ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Manchester United.
“He’s done a lot,” said Lampard. “Obviously I worked with him last year and I’m really happy with how he’s training, how he’s playing and his status in the group coming back here.
“The players recognise quality instantly but they also recognise work rate and character and Mason has all of those.
“He’s given me a problem. Ross Barkley had also had a good pre-season and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be back later on and it’s good, as they’re all adaptable.
“It doesn’t have to be just one. They can play in a variety of positions. I couldn’t ask for more from what Mason has done.”
