The Blues were vulnerable in defence as we lost 4-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Despite Chelsea’s control of the game, the Blues conceded four goals as Manchester United exposed our defence with their swift counterattacks.
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard wants to solve our defensive woes by bringing back Antonio Rudiger earlier than planned.
Rudiger underwent a knee surgery earlier this year and had pencilled in the clash against Wolves after the forthcoming international break to make his long-awaited return to action.
Rudiger only wants to return to action when he’s 100 per cent fit to avoid a reoccurrence of the injury.
Daily Mail claim Lampard is keeping an even closer eye on Rudiger’s pending return following Sunday’s heavy 4-0 loss at Old Trafford.
Lampard had talks with Rudiger before the start of the season and he reportedly told the Germany international that he was an important player in his squad.
Lampard is reportedly eager to have Rudiger back as soon as possible as he looks to add solidity to the defence. Rudiger’s return could see Kurt Zouma lose his place in the starting XI after his poor performance against Manchester United.
Former Chelsea assistant manager Gianfranco Zola believes Rudiger will pair Andreas Christensen in defence when the German is fully fit.
Asked if Zouma will drop to the bench when Rudiger becomes available, Zola told beIN Sports: “Certainly Rudiger has got more experience. Kurt Zouma fouled Marcus Rashford for Manchester United’s penalty.
“I think he (Rudiger) has a better understanding with Christensen.
“I believe if they want to play out from the back, Rudiger and Christensen will be more suitable.”
