Chelsea boss Frank Lampard insists all his players were impressive against Liverpool but he singled out left-back Emerson and central midfielder Jorginho for their efforts against Liverpool.
According to Lampard, Emerson and Jorginho still worked hard for 120 minutes against Liverpool despite playing against Manchester United on Sunday.
Asked to pick out the standout performer of the night, Lampard replied: “Well one of my players obviously.
“It’s a difficult one I think. I loved the performance of Jorginho for us and I loved the performance of Emerson, I thought they were both fantastic.
“And when you think of 120 minutes for two players who played on Sunday evening, so Liverpool were fresher than us, I thought they were leaders in the team.
“But I liked the performance of all of my players. Not one player was below par today. Everyone gave everything, the subs made an impact. So all, all of them.”
Lampard also bemoaned Chelsea’s penalty shootout loss to Liverpool.
He said: “I’m the worst loser in the world and I hate it. The way they played, the spirit, the desire, the quality.
“I know we lost and that’s it but (we take) confidence for the season. We have got real quality in there. Sometimes football is little moments of luck.’
“I don’t want to look like I’m moaning but it clearly affects preparation, it’s unfortunate they have two day extra recovery.
“I respect Liverpool, but I felt we were the stronger team. I’m a terrible loser but the feeling for me is one of pride.
“If we keep playing like that then we’ll be okay. I saw a lot of things I want to see.”
