Chelsea youngster Mason Mount has had a good start to the season with impressive performances in all the games he has played so far. The 20-year-old even netted a goal in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City.
Mount impressed last season on loan while playing under Frank Lampard at Derby County last season. Lampard was impressed with what he had seen from Mount and brought him to the Chelsea first team, and the youngster had been impressive even right from pre-season.
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has now hailed Mount as the future of English football.
“Watching Chelsea face Leicester, it felt like we were watching the future of English football,” Frank Lampard’s cousin wrote for Daily Mail.
“Mason Mount, 20, and James Maddison, 22, were the two best players on the pitch. They showed exactly what they are all about with their pressing and attack-mindedness.
“If I was Gareth Southgate, I would be thrilled seeing that in a big game.”
Mount described his feeling about scoring his first Chelsea goal as he said: “It feels a bit surreal, having been at the club for such a long time and now finally breaking into the first team,” he added.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and now there are fans with my name on the back of their shirts!
“It’s crazy to process but my focus is to keep working hard day-in, day-out in training so I can play as many games as I can and prove to the manager that I’m ready. I’m loving every minute of it.”
