Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has moved to assure Chelsea fans that David Luiz left Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium without any form of controversy.

Chelsea fans have been disappointed with the Brazilian in the way he left the club on transfer deadline day with the new season just about to start.

David Luiz’s £8m transfer move to Arsenal came as a shock, as a week ago there were no talks of an exit for the defender.

Reports even claimed that the Chelsea defender refused to train with Chelsea’s first-team as he looked to push through a move to Arsenal before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

However, Lampard has clarified the situation by insisting the decision for Luiz to train on his own on Wednesday had been made with preparations for our trip to Old Trafford in mind.

“There certainly wasn’t a strike or fallout so I want to make that clear straight away,” the Chelsea manager said.

“I always expected honesty from a manager whatever the news and I think I got that back from David.

“The day David didn’t train was a decision that I made because it was clear the way we were going. I am very happy with the squad I have got now and my focus is working on that.”

From Lampard’s press conference, the Blues boss revealed that Luiz refused to fight for a shirt and rather chose to leave for Arsenal as he didn’t get any assurance from Lampard.

Despite the sale of Luiz to the Gunners, Lampard still has four central defenders to choose from this season.
