Chelsea trio N’Golo Kante, Antonio Rudiger and Willian have spent the bulk of the pre-season injured and of the three of them, only Kante featured in a pre-season clash for the Blues.
Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been out of action since undergoing knee surgery at the end of last season, while Willian picked up a hamstring strain in the Copa America semifinals last month.
Rudiger and Kante didn’t feature in any pre-season game due to their injuries, but have now both returned to training with the first team ahead of the new season.
Ahead of Sunday’s game against Manchester United, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has given fitness report on all three of them, and he doubts their fitness state for the game against United.
Lampard has admitted that it’s possibly only Kante who might feature against United, but the dogged midfielder might not start the game.
“We have Kante fit, but if he’s match fit is a question I will have to decide right up until the end,” Lampard said in his press conference.
“Everyone else is pretty much fit. We have the ones we know are outstanding. Willian is working to be fit and it’s probably come slightly too soon for him. Possibly Rudiger the same, but he has been training with us for a few days now. That’s for me to gauge over the next 24, 48 hours until Sunday.
“I know the squad we have got, I pretty much know where we are going. We have trained well, so we’re there.”
