Chelsea youngster Mason Mount has shown how important he can be for Chelsea this season.
The 20-year-old even netted a goal in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City and has impressed in every game he has played this season.
Mount impressed last season on loan while playing under Frank Lampard at Derby County last season. Lampard was impressed with what he had seen from Mount and brought him to the Chelsea first team, and the youngster had been impressive even right from pre-season.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has hailed Mount for easily slotting into the Premier League.
Lampard told reporters: “It’s not easy to be thrown into the Premier League and the attention that comes with it. He has handled it brilliantly. In terms of the character to deal with that he’s right up there. He’s got the hunger, the desire and also the humility.
“He will have to keep dealing with it if he performs like he has done at the start of the season, then he is going to be a big player for us and with that comes a lot of attention.”
Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has now hailed Mount as the future of English football.
“Watching Chelsea face Leicester, it felt like we were watching the future of English football,” Frank Lampard’s cousin wrote for Daily Mail.
“Mason Mount, 20, and James Maddison, 22, were the two best players on the pitch. They showed exactly what they are all about with their pressing and attack-mindedness.
“If I was Gareth Southgate, I would be thrilled seeing that in a big game.”
