Chelsea put up a brave fight against Liverpool at the Besiktas Park Stadium in Istanbul in the UEFA Super Cup clash.

It was a good game of football for the neutrals, and the tie was evenly contested by both teams, providing a spectacle for fans in Turkey.

However, Liverpool had a slight advantage heading to this game as Jurgen Klopp’s side had two extra days to rest for this fixture compared to Chelsea. Liverpool played their season opener on Friday, while Chelsea played two days later.

Lampard has admitted that Jurgen Klopp’s side had the advantage with extra days of rest heading to this game but hailed his players for the kind of performance they put up in 120 minutes of football.

“For us to play away in Manchester on Sunday evening and for Liverpool to play at home on Friday evening, with two days more recovery this early in the season, it clearly affects your preparation and was an advantage to them,” Lampard said.

“You wouldn’t have known it with the way we played because we kept going for 120 minutes but it’s unfortunate for a game of this level and importance that there’s two days extra recovery and preparation for one team over another.

“I don’t want to sound like I’m moaning – we didn’t lose the game because of that but it was a bit frustrating.”
