Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud came on as a second half substitute in Chelsea’s 2-2 preseason draw against Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, our final preseason game before the start of the season.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was impressed with the display of Giroud and has urged every Chelsea player to show a desire to impact games like Giroud did when he came on.
Lampard said, according to Chelsea’s official website: “We need all the squad, we need players to be competitive, we need players to come on like Giroud did on Saturday and show a desire to impact a game, to try to turn a result and that is what we need for the season, so I want to set that tone going into it.”
With less than a week to our season opener against Manchester United at Old Trafford, Lampard also revealed he more or less knows his team selection against the Red Devils but also insisted the door isn’t shut on any player to push themselves into the starting XI against Manchester United.
“I more or less know my team selection but it is a long week to come and players have to train every day to get themselves in the team, so the door isn’t shut on that,” Lampard added.
