After many weeks and months of negotiations, Manchester United have finally completed the signing of Harry Maguire from Leicester City.
The 26-year-old has completed an £80million move from the Foxes to Manchester United and he has stated that he is ready to face Chelsea in their Premier League opener.
United will host Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday August 11, and this game marks a huge one for Chelsea and Manchester United in their fight for a top four spot.
For Maguire, he’s eager to play a big game against Chelsea.
“It’s incredible. It’s a really proud moment for me to join such a big club, I’m really looking forward to it and I can’t wait to get started,” Maguire told the official Manchester United website.
“Like you said, the first game last season was at Old Trafford – it’s the fixture that I always look for when I’ve been playing in the Premier League, Old Trafford away and now it’s my home, so I can’t wait to get started.
“I tend to get my head down – I’ve worked hard, I’ve done every session and I’ve played every game for Leicester so my fitness is there.
“That was a big part for me to play because if I ended up getting the move that I wanted, I would have been fit and in contention to play the first game. I feel like I’m ready to go, but obviously it’s the gaffer’s decision.”
Before the deal was made, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had revealed that he was keen to unleash the centre-back against Chelsea.
“Hopefully the last little details will be in place and hopefully we can announce something soon,” Solskjaer said of the deal.
“Let’s get the last details over the line but yeah, he’s played a few games over the summer so we’ll have to assess him if and when.”
