Chelsea were very unlucky to have lost the game against Manchester United 4-0.
Frank Lampard’s side started the game brightly, but it wasn’t to be as the Blues ended up on the losing side despite creating more chances than their opponent.
It was even bitter to note that Chelsea hit the woodwork twice during the match and Frank Lampard was obviously disappointed with the final outcome of the game.
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has admitted that the players are very disappointed with the outcome of the game and it would have been a different scoreline if the Blues had taken their chances.
“We’re obviously very disappointed with the result because we controlled the game, especially in the first half, and created a lot of chances but we couldn’t score,” Azpilicueta said.
“It’s a tough scoreline to take but we weren’t clinical in the boxes and after we conceded two goals in two minutes, things were more difficult for us.
“From that point, we were more open and gave them more spaces, they got more confidence and at the end we got a tough result. We deserved more but it is what it is and we have to move on.”
However, it isn’t all gloom from the Chelsea side as Blues boss Frank Lampard admitted after the game that he was pleased with Chelsea’s control of the game and the intensity of our press.
Asked to specify what aspects of our performance he was pleased with, Lampard said: “It was the control of the game. We were intense in our pressure in the first half.
“For big spells they didn’t really get out against us. We won the ball back high in lots of areas, be it Mason or Pedro. I thought Jorginho and Kovacic dominated the midfield in the first half and switched the play as we wanted to switch it.
“But football is won and lost in the boxes. They won in our box by being clinical. We had so many more shots and attacking entries than them, and that was where we let ourselves down by not putting them away.
“It is quite hard to talk about it after a 4-0, you can sound stupid, but anyone who watched the game will have seen that. It gets overrided by the fact we gave them opportunities to score and they took them.”
