Michy Batshuayi scored a brace and Antonio Rudiger returned from injury as Chelsea U23 beat Liverpool U23 3-0.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was at Stamford Bridge to watch the game and he must have been impressed with the pair.
Rudiger supplied Batshuayi for the first goal as the defender fed a through ball to the striker to clip into the back of the net five minutes before halftime.
Two minutes into the second half, Batshuayi scored his second goal of the night. An incisive attack down the left saw the ball go from Ian Maatsen to Juan Castillo and then into Faustino Anjorin, who teed up Batshuayi to rifle a finish into the roof of the net.
After the game, Chelsea development squad head coach Andy Myers revealed he was impressed with the performance of the team.
“I was very pleased with our start because we just picked up from where we left off against Derby,” he said. “Our attitude was spot-on, even from the senior players involved, and it was nice to come away with the result.
“It’s important for us to keep that momentum going and move on to the next game with the same high standards.”
