Ajax, Valencia and Lille will be our opponents in the group stage of the 2019/20 Champions League.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will be happy with Chelsea’s draw as we would travel the shortest distance compared to other English teams.
According to Daily Mail, Chelsea will travel just 1,693 miles compared to Manchester City, who will travel 3,734 miles, more than double the distance Chelsea will travel. Manchester City have been pitted against Shakhtar Donetsk, Dinamo Zagreb and Atalanta.
Tottenham also have much travelling to do as they would fly a total of 3,584 miles, having been drawn with Red Star Belgrade of Serbia, Olympiacos of Greece and Bayern Munich of Germany.
Current Champions League holders Liverpool will travel 2,377 miles, having been drawn with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, Belgian outfit Genk and Italian team Napoli.
Meanwhile, Chelsea legend Petr Cech, who has involved in the draw, insists Chelsea’s group is a very even group.
“I think it is a very even group,” Cech said. “All the teams have a lot of quality and it is one of those groups where everybody can beat everybody so this makes it very interesting but we can be satisfied with the draw. We avoided long travel so that was one of the positives.
“They are new teams for the Chelsea fans and for the club so it is going to be interesting encounters but Ajax had a fantastic season last season so they will want to repeat that, but we are looking forward to the challenge and I hope we are going to go through.
“We will like to do the best that is possible, so obviously compete in every game, try to win and go through the group stage and once you reach the knockout stages, anything can happen. So we will see how we go but the first target is to try to go through the group stage and qualify for the next round.”
