According to Liverpool legend and ESPN FC pundit Steve Nicol, Chelsea duo Olivier Giroud and Christian Pulisic have proven they should be in Frank Lampard’s starting XI after their performance against Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
Pulisic and Giroud were both substitutes in the loss at Manchester United on Sunday but started against Liverpool on Wednesday.
Nicol also believes Abraham isn’t a Premier League striker yet. Abraham started the 4-0 loss at Old Trafford but came in for Olivier Giroud in the Super Cup loss to Liverpool on Wednesday.
“I thought he did well in this game,” Nicol said of Pulisic.
“I thought he looked sharp, I thought he scored a good goal.
“He was unlucky that he was slightly offside but he still had a lot to do.
“Went past the defender and stuck it in the bottom corner.
“If I’m Frank Lampard, I’m playing Mason Mount on one side and I’m playing Pulisic on the other side, and I’m playing Giroud through the middle.
“Mount’s looked good, for me Pulisic’s looked good, Tammy Abraham is not a centre-forward in the Premier League, and you have to play Giroud.”
