Following Chelsea’s 2-2 draw against Sheffield United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard needs to be ruthless and drop Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Lampard refused to blame any individual for the draw against Sheffield United but he will definitely be disappointed with the performance of Azpilicueta against Sheffield United.
Azpilicueta was easily beaten for both of Sheffield United’s goals. He was turned too easily by Enda Stevens for Sheffield United’s firs goal and then Callum Robinson for their second.
Azpilicueta was also careless in possession. The Spaniard gave the ball away 20 times against Sheffield United and with Lampard wanting Chelsea to play out of the back and be comfortable in possession, Azpilicueta isn’t the right-back Chelsea needs.
The game against Sheffield United wasn’t the only game Azpilicueta has played badly this season. He was at fault for two goals in the 4-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford, and was also at fault for Leicester’s equaliser in the 1-1 at Stamford Bridge. Azpilicueta didn’t also have a good game against Norwich City last weekend.
Should Azpilicueta be dropped from the starting XI?
